Vampire's lover walks to cure Diabetes

"Twilight" star, Kristen Stewart was the surprise guest at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium on Nov. 8 to kick off the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Walkers showed up to raise awareness and money for a cure for Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. According to the foundation, they hope that the event this year will raise at least $2 million for diabetes research.

The “Twilight” star found it "amazing to be around such inspiring people," said Stewart. She cut the ribbon with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard before taking the stage to say a few inspiring words.

To attend the walk, Stewart took a break from her "New Moon" promotional schedule which she and fellow cast mates have been doing continuously around the world.

Like I said in Cyrus's case, you have to hope that Stewart did the walk for a good reason, rather than to get good press two weeks before her movie comes out.

"It's a bit of a coincidence that 'Bella' did this charity event right before her movie...though she really doesn't need it to gain publicity, the movie will be a hit no matter what," said Natalie Murdock, student at the University of Texas at Austin.

Murdock says she is the biggest "Twilight" fan and doesn't care the reasons behind her good charity work.

I give her the benefit of the doubt as well; maybe she has a relationship with someone who suffered from Diabetes. Or maybe she was touched by what the foundation does.

Either way, Stewart has my support as I will be seeing "New Moon" at midnight on Nov. 20.

Mariah Carey sympathizes with Rihanna

Mariah Carey discussed her past abusive relationship with a former boyfriend in an interview Wednesday night on Larry King Live.

Carey went on the show to discuss her new movie and album but later admitted that a former boyfriend abused her.

"Emotionally, mentally, in other ways ... It's scary," said Carey. "You know, I just think you get into a situation and you feel locked in. If your situation is similar to one of the situations I've been in – which I won't harp on – for me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing, where the person was in control of my life."

Though Carey did not reveal who she was referring to, some speculate that she is talking about her ex-husband music mogul Tommy Mottola. The couple married in 1993 but they shorty ended five years later.

Carey has noted on several occasions that Mottola was controlling and told her how to speak and dress, according to Entertainment Tonight. Some have credited her evolution into a strong, independent artist to this abusive relationship and following divorce.

When asked how she reacted to the Rihanna news, Carey said, "I was very sequestered, as you know, when I first started out ... I wasn't really allowed out of the house, so I can't imagine what she went through." According to Entertainment Tonight, Carey sympathizes with Rihanna greatly.

Now happily married, Carey also discussed future plans with husband, Nick Cannon. Carey said that being pregnant "would be the happiest thing in my life, but what I'm saying is right now with this movie coming out, with the next few singles from the album and those things that I'm doing, I need to focus on that because I cannot do the having-a-child thing halfway."

Chris Brown rewards his faithful fans

Chris Brown has planned a month-long fan-appreciation tour, which kicks off Nov. 14 in Houston. After a slow comeback, he better do something big to retain support from his fans.

After admitting to abusing his former girlfriend, Rihanna, Brown has stayed out of the spotlight. Fans of all ages have watched him deal with his abuse and punishment he received.

The returning R&B star revealed on his Twitter page Monday that his third album, and first since his arrest for assaulting is due out Dec. 15, 2009. The tour will highlight the new album, including his new song, "I Can Transform Ya," as well as some oldies.

The tour is aimed to acknowledge and thank fans for their ongoing support toward the R&B performer. It is "conceptualized for and with 'fans only' in mind," according to ACESHOWBIZ.

The venue will be "small and intimate," according to MSNBC. "A portion of tour proceeds are going to charities."

Good move on Brown's side, if you ask me. Celebrities can usually bounce back after scandals, and it doesn't hurt to show his sensitive side by giving to charity, one of which is devoted to domestic-violence intervention.

I think fans will appreciate his effort to give back to the community and thank his fans for their continuous support. Though others will not be so quick to bounce back into his music.

"He was one of my favorite performers until he abused the beautiful Rihanna," said Kyle Nelson, junior at The University of Texas at Austin. "I will never buy a concert ticket or album from him again."

Brangelina...the next Nobel Peace Prize Recipients?

I don't know about you guys, but I think Brad and Angelina love attention. Whether they are making new movies, adopting kids, or saving orphans, the pair seems to attract the public eye.

To gain attention this time Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie visited a children’s village in Amman, Jordan on October 1. The couple was invited by Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, who is chairman of SOS Children’s Villages in Jordan and spent time meeting and playing with abandoned children.


It was Jolie's second time in the village after previously donating to the costs of one family's home in 2003. According to Jolie, she was "anxious to see how the family was doing now."

The couple tried to raise "awareness for the fact that childhood abandonment is at risk and that everybody should support this noble cause in every part of the world." With their impressive celebrity status, they have already helped gain some attention.

We have to wonder though, do Pitt and Jolie do this work out of the kindness of their hearts or for publicity? The answer depends on your opinion of the couple.

There are many other celebrities doing noteworthy charity events, but do not receive as much hype as Brangelina. Though this time we've got to give it to them. The couple didn't publicize their charity work all over the media like some celebrities would have done, or like they have done in the past.

Don't get me wrong, what the couple did was selfless and honorable at the very least. Though I do think there are other people in the world that deserve thanks for their charity work as well.

Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Jesse McCartney will perform at the Concert for Hope on October 25 to benefit City of Hope's cancer research.
Hosted by Staples Inc., the concert will raise money for cancer research and treatment programs at City of Hope, one of the nation's leading cancer centers. The Disney stars will come together at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Last year the concert raised $1.2 million for City of Hope's cancer research effort where Cyrus, Levato, and The Jonas Brothers performed.
In addition to the Concert for Hope, Cyrus is donating $1 from each ticket sold to the cancer center. In her tour last year, Cyrus raised more than $2 million.
“I think people of all ages will want to go to the concert,” said Kristen Caldwell, 20-year-old advertising student. “I can’t wait to hear Miley and Jesse, and to know that I’m helping sick people makes it so much better.”
The stars have not promoted the concert much yet, but as the event moves closer, I’m sure we will be hearing a lot from the artists.
